Nile Children and Family Support Organization is a private, non-profit, non-political and non-sectarior organisation. We respect the intergrity, pride and culture of the children and families. We serve and we do not discriminate on the basis of religious, race or political or personal beliefs.

4. How is Nile Children different from other development organizations?

Nile Children is a child-focused organization. Throught child-focused programs in Ethiopia we work for a better future for deprived children. We also stimulate contact between the chidren and Foster Parents. Child sponsorship is our primary source of funding.

5. What is sponsorship?

Child sponsorship offers an opportunity for caring persons to send monthly supports to supplement a child's care consisting of food, clothing, medical attention, and education opportunities.

Your $30 US monthly support will help your child with basic necessities that determine the kind of future he or she will have. Without them, there may be no future.

6. What sponsorship means to the child

Sponsorship affects the total life of the child throught meeting the physical, mental, and spritual needs of the child. Emotional needs are met throught the love and care given by the sponsors. Your tangible love will change the life of your child.

Sponsorship helps to bind the physical, mental, spritual, and emotional wounds that would otherwise leave the child scarred for life. Your tangible love can and will change the life of your special child.

7. Sponsorship...NOT adoption

Nile children is not an adoption agency. Legal adoption of children sponsored through Nile Children is not possible.

8. How often are sponsorship contributions made?

You may choose to make donations monthly, quarterly, semi-quarterly or annualy. You can make your contribution by check or money order, but we storngly encourage you to have your contribution automatically deducted from your credit card. This safe, simple method doesn't cost you anything and it saves considerable processing time and expense.

9. Will you help me track my contributions?

You will receive a regular commitment statement that will show your current status as well as a form to send in your next contribution. You will not receive a Commintment Statement for automatic deduction, unlesss you specificially request one. We will send you an annual summary of giving to help you keep track of your contributions.

10. Can I send gifts to my sponsored child?

Expreience has thought us that sending large packages or things of significant monetary value can cause problems, everything from custom delays and cost to jealously among the children. We do provide guidelines for sending small, inexpensive items that fit flat in our envelop and can be shared. Coloring books, stickers, posters, even subscriptions to childrens' megazines.

11. May I visit my child?

We encourage you to visit and see your support in action! Every year, a number of Nile Children sponsors enjoy visits to our program areas with help from local staff. If you wish, the Filed Office can arrenge a visit with your sponsored child, provided his or her parent or guardian gives consert.

12. Is there someone I can contact if I have questions?

Sponsorship Representatives are standing by to help you with your sponsorship and answers any quetions you may have. You may e-mail them by clicking here or, to speak to someone directly, by phoning 251-1-715469. You can also mail to: NCFSO, P.O.Box 445,Code 1110, addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

13. Can I write to my sponsored child?

Every sponsor receives a letter writing kit which explains all the details. Many sponsors write short letters 2-3 times a year; others choose not to write. If you do decide to exchange letters these will be translated in our field office for you and your sponsored child, if necessary.

14. Why don't my sponsorship contributions go directly to my sponsored child?

Almost 10 years of experience has thought us that direct handouts are the least effective way of helping children; your contributions are instead combined with those of other sponsors and caring individuals so that many can benefit from our programs. These programs are designed to meet the unique needs of each community.

15. How long does sponsorship last?.

Normally a child will continue to be sponsored untile the age of 18, or untile the family no longer need our help. But this does not commit you to sponsoring for a fixed period of years. If you decide you can not continue, you can withdraw at any time and another sponsor will be found for your child. You will still have the satisfaction of knowing you have helped to give a child a better future.

16. Benefits for child, his family and surrounding community

Nile Children is an indigenous, non-profit and non-governmental development agency. Child Sponsorship is the direct relationship of a special sponsor to a special child or children.

However, Nile Children offers a variety of other projects that provide for the drilling of water wells, the building of schools and health posts, and ditribution of seed grain for future crops. We belive in helping people become self-sufficient.

17. Chrismas and birthdays

The Child Sponsorship program provides two parties annually for all of the children in each of our project areas.

In the celebration of the children's birthdays, once a year we host a festival party with games and refreshements for all.

An annual Chrismas party is held in December. Refreshments are served and the Chrismas story is told. Gifts are given to each child. For many of these children, it is their first occasion to receive a gift.

Our policy does not allow sponsors to send their children individual gifts. We fell that it is better for all the children to receive the same kind of gift on the same day.

18. What each sponsorship packet contains

The individual sponsorship packet that is mailed to you at your request will contain an individual history of your special child, a photograph of your child, and a brief description of your child's country. Periodically you will receive correspondence from your child.

We receive regular progress reports from Nile Children field representative. These progress reports contain updated, pertinent information about sponsorship and will highlight some of the areas where children are sponsored; these reports will be forwarded to you.

19. Receipts and remittance coupons

Upon receipt of your sponsorship contributions, we will send you a receipt for you to keep for your records and detachable remittance form as a reminder of your special commitement. Special messages will be enclosed on the receipt/remittance forms and you will also receive a devotional letter along with a return envelope for your convenience.

20. Can I give more than my normal(monthly)contribution?

Of course! Extra contributions are always welcome. These are often used for the children's fund, for children from a village to help administer projects they have chosen themselves. You can, of course, adoupt more than one Foster Child.
